Okkervil RiverAlternative folk rock outfit from Texas, Okkervil River began as a mutual project of high-school friends Will Sheff (vocals, guitar), and Seth Warren (guitar), and grew in numbers and complexity to its current 6-person line-up over the ensuing decade. Starting with their debut EP "Bedroom" in 1998, the group gradually gained a huge cult following in Texas, and in the years since have become one of the most intriguing acts on the indie scene. The group have released four profound and complex full length albums, initially on their own label, and later through Jagjaguwar and Virgin/EMI. Their 2005 breakthrough album "Black Sheep Boy" perfectly encapsulated their compelling mixture of folk rock and alternative rock, comprising insistent, organic melodies, literate lyrics, and the wonder of Sheff’s brilliant wailing vocals. Most recently, the 2007 and 2008 releases "Stage Names" and its sequel "Stand Ins", loosely based on the band's experiences on the road, garnered critical acclaim bordering on worship, and resulted in the current massive buzz surrounding the sextet. "frontman Will Sheff stakes a claim here for the right to be called the best songwriter working right now" PREFIX MAG Web: http://www.myspace.com/okkervilriver LINEUP SUBJECT TO CHANGE |
