Michael Nyman Orchestra

One of Britain's most innovative and celebrated composers, Michael Nyman's prolific work encompasses operas and string quartets, film soundtracks and orchestral concertos. Now most publicly known for numerous film scores, of which "The Draughtsman's Contract" and Jane Campion's "The Piano" are perhaps the most recognized, Nyman has been composing and touring with the acclaimed Michael Nyman Orchestra since 1977.
 
His operas include "The Man Who Mistook His Wife for a Hat", "Letters, Riddles and Writs", and "Facing Goya". He has collaborated musically with artists such as Mary Kelly, Damon Albarn, Carsten Nicolai, and the recent Oscar winning "Man on Wire" star Phillippe Petit.
 
Nyman was awarded a CBE for services to British music last year. He comes to Electric Picnic with a 12 piece band.
