Micachu & the Shapes21 year old Mica Levi, AKA "Micachu and The Shapes", is one of the rare instances of an act brave enough to take pop music into entirely uncharted territory. A classically trained composer, Mica shows a genius for intelligent pop- mashing genres from grime to garage to dubstep into a brilliant and original sound. Micachu is largely inspired by Harry Partch, who famously used an array of customised and home-made instruments, including a xylophone made of light bulbs, a 'Cloud Chamber' made out of pyrex dishes, and a series of highly complicated 44 stringed instruments. Similarly Micachu uses a modified guitar played with a hammer action called a 'chu' and a bowed instrument fashioned from a CD rack. She also uses improvised instruments, such as glass bottles or a vacuum cleaner. Based in London and recently signed to Rough Trade Records, Micachu and The Shapes just released their debut "Jewellery" in March of this year. A brilliant Matthew Herbert produced amalgam of leftfield pop, the album harnesses a conflagration of ground breaking sounds and ideas and fuses them into 24 carat pop gold. "one of the most unusual albums you will hear. It is a fearlessly experimental, effervescent record which blends the organic and the digital" TELEGRAPH Web: http://www.myspace.com/micayomusic LINEUP SUBJECT TO CHANGE |
