Magnolia Electric Co.

The latest incarnation of songsmith Jason Molina's country folk genius, Magnolia Electric Co were formed in 2003, when Molina retired the name "Songs: Ohio", while retaining almost the same line-up and musical style of the original band.

The quintet's debut full length was released in 2005 through Secretly Canadian to rhapsodic reviews, whereupon the band hit the road immediately for a much anticipated tour, and issued a five-song EP "Hard to Love a Man" in the same year. They released "Fading Trails" in September 2006 - a quieter less intense blues album, which prompted endless comparisons with Neil Young.

This year's studio album "Josephine" came out in July, and has been hailed as Monlina’s most beautiful and accessible yet of the 17 albums he has released in various guises. A haunting fusion of reedy harmonies, horns, soulful guitars, and gospel piano, dedicated to bassist Evan Farrell, who died tragically in late 2007.

Although Jason Molina has performed several times in Ireland both solo and with his Song Ohio incarnation, this will be his first time bringing Magnolia Electric Company to Ireland.
