MagazineMagazine, the iconic post-punk band from Manchester, who originally split in 1981, re-united last year for a limited run of shows, 28 years after their last live performance together. Amazingly, this show at Electric Picnic will be their first ever gig in Ireland. Original band members Howard Devoto, Dave Formula, Barry Adamson, and John Doyle will be joined live by lead man Devoto's former "Luxuria" bandmate, Noko, who will stand in for the late John McGeoch, who died in 2004. Vocalist and brilliant lyricist Devoto originally formed the band after he left the Buzzcocks in 1977. They released four innovative studio albums in their career following the release of their debut single, "Shot by Both Sides", in 1978. Their punk and later experimental synth-based sound had a profound effect on the music that followed, with Radiohead and Morrissey among those acknowledging the group's influence. Magazine recently released a Peel Sessions album in the US for the first time. "Magazine: The Complete John Peel Sessions" features 17 tracks recorded on john Peel’s BBC Radio 1 programme between 1978 and 1980.
