Explosions in The SkyTexas instrumental guitar rock band, Explosions in The Sky, celebrate the tenth anniversary of their formation this year. Since they came together in Austin in 1999, the quartet has released five extraordinary albums, along the dynamic and moody instrumental indie lines of the likes of Godspeed You Black Emperor! and Mogwai. Never conventional, the group has a story to tell behind all of their albums. Rehearsal footage from the making of their 2000 debut album "How Strange, Innocence" is featured on the short film “Cicadas”, which won an Austin Film Festival award. Their second album a year later saw them questioned by authorities due to a coincidental plane crash reference, made shortly in advance of the September 11th hijackings. Their fourth album "The Rescue" was recorded and mixed in two weeks, with none of the material written in advance. The group spent eight days writing and finishing one song each day. In addition to their albums, the quartet wrote and performed the soundtrack for 2004 film "Friday Night Lights". The group is currently working on material for a new record, while still fitting in a rake of European and U.S. dates this summer, including their August tour in the States with The Flaming Lips.
