Chic
The legendary disco band responsible for 1970s dance floor mega-hits "Freak Out", "Everybody Dance" and "Good Times", Chic were the primary creative outlet for genius musicians/producers Nile Rodgers, Bernard Edwards, and Tony Thompson. And would you believe, Electric Picnic is set to Chic's first ever Irish show.
In addition to their undoubted status as disco's greatest band, the group were also the most sought-after disco producers on the scene throughout the late 70s and 80s, producing such albums as Sister Sledge's "We Are Family" (feat. "He's the Greatest Dancer"), and Diana Ross's "Diana" (feat. "Upside Down"). Individually, Edwards, and particularly Rogers, produced albums for the top acts of the 1980s including David Bowie's "Let’s Dance", Madonna's "Like a Virgin", Mick Jagger's "She's The Boss" and Duran Duran's "Notorious".
The stripped down simplicity of their rhythm and funk-based production set Chic apart in an era when disco was already becoming over produced and over embellished. The trio’s loyalty to disco’s basic elements led to the creation of some of the greatest dance singles of the era, and helped to create a foundation from which musical styles like urban funk, dance-pop, and hip hop could grow.
Everybody dance- do-do-do, clap your hands, clap your hands…
