Buraka Som Sistema (Live)

Buraka Som Sistema is an electronically fused rapping crew from Portugal. They play Kudoro, an Angolan take on dance music which is an example of music truly transforming local sonic sensibilities when someone got their hands on a synthesiser.

Club music, hip hop, bassy and wild. Kuduro, which mixes Rai and Soca rhythms with local MCing and salvaged electronics, is the product of the same kind of environment and pressure that produced Baile Funk in Rio and Kwaito in South Africa.

DJ Lil Jon says of Buraka that "the voice is used as a percussive instrument".

This is done to savage effect. From 2006’s “Buraka To The World” and the M.I.A team-up on “Sound of Kuduro”. Then on to their debut “Black Diamond” which is now being put back out on Fabric due to popular demand.

Buraka themselves are constantly in countless DJ's mix's with good reason. Despite such exposure where you'll still find them at home is letting loose on stage.

A notoriously explosive live festival act, they have played to crowds of tens of thousands on mainland Europe and beyond. Now is Ireland's turn.
