Alabama 3They're not from Alabama, and there aren’t three of them. They are however, as reputed, one of the greatest, most outrageous, and utterly original live acts currently performing in the UK. Formed in Brixton in the late 1990s, Alabama 3 broke the mould completely on British pop of the time, creating their very own bizarre genre of crazy gospel fused with country, blues, and house music, tentatively described as "chemical country". The motley crew of we're-not-sure-how-many ravers and country musicians is headed up by group founders "Larry Love", "The Very Reverend D.Wayne Love", and "The Mountain of Love", all originally from South London, who nevertheless sing, rap, preach, and ramble hilariously between songs in deep Southern accents as part of their theatrical live show. Last year saw Alabama 3 release a 10 year retrospective LP "Hits & Exit Wounds", cataloging the best of the group's last 6 groundbreaking albums, and including the outstanding track "Woke Up This Morning", which famously featured as the theme tune on HBO’s series "Sopranos". "The best live band in the country" The Guardian "This is the first band I could ever dance to in the daytime hours without chemical assistance...and that says a lot" Irvine Welsh Web: http://www.myspace.com/alabama3uk LINEUP SUBJECT TO CHANGE |
