Smash Hits Gramophone Disco & Magic Lantern Cinema
This years theme is a vintage Tropicana, Tiki and Caribbean vibe. Think Carmen Miranda meets the calypsonians, and does the mambo down to Waikiki. The Magic Lantern Cinema will show early films of both Irish and international production and the Gramophone disco will emanate 78s and sounds that pre-date 1960. As well as showing feature length films, we will also show tailor made cinematic visuals that marry with the mood of the music.
The space will have comfortable seating & theatrical lighting with vintage photography in period frames around the walls. We use props and antiques to set the scene and transport the visitor to a Caribbean cabana circa 1948. It will be a civilized sanctuary for the weary festival goer.
Check out the board outside the venue scheduling the events.
The venue will run for eight hours per day.
Opening hours will be 3.00pm - 8.00 pm.
1.00am - 4.00 am.
Willow Sculptures
Towering once more over the Village Green & Zen Gardens , our willow sculptuires- a drummer, guitarist and fiddle playing Devil.
These giants are constructed completely out of willow woven in the wilds of west Wales. They are inspired and made for the festival tribe and they have wandered many a field and mile before landing at Stradbally.
Inflatable Church
Every year they blow up at Electric Picnic with weddings, funerals and
all things ecumenical; this year they're back with a whole lot more love
for our congregation. For those of you wishing to get hitched, the
Reverends Duncan Pritchard and Edmond Wellington will be holding wedding
ceremonies from 12-7pm daily.
But that's not all. There is also the Big Love Baptism, where you can
wash away your festival sins and mud.
Granny's Gaff
Partly inspired by the Woman's Institute and our own grannies, we call
ourselves the Real Women's Institute. We create a small tea garden area
in front of our gaff. Selling a range of hot drinks, toast, teacakes and hot cross buns, along with a small shop area stocking festival essentials we a social area and place to reminisce about the old days, We operate events and antics in our area and around the site such as : bingo, granny aerobics, 'Guess the Weight of the Colostomy Bag', musical statues, 'Dementia Dress-Up', storytelling, remote control grannies, toiletry applause, granny fights, wheelchair rides, our famous 'Bad Advice', constant measuring (in inches) and even
jousting.
