Salty Dog in the Woods

Salty Dog Saloon Stage

Salty Dog Saloon Stage LogoLast year, only a few thousand of you found the Salty Dog Saloon at the Electric Picnic. It was probably best that way.

An old ship wreck, once a proud fishing vessel, now lies forlorn in the woods at Stradbally, lowering the tone and sitting falling into disrepair as the seasons pass.

At the start of September each year, a large, raised stage, cut from the mid-section of the wreck, comes alive. Rum-fuelled sea shanties, rasping washed-up bluegrass folksters, Port-au-Prince Caribbean dread-heads, and gravelly maritime Rockabilly song-dogs find their home here… the infamous Salty Dog Saloon emerges out of the fallen masts and rigging when the sun dips below the yard arm.

Jerry Fish and the Mudbug Club, Rum Shibeen, The Sick and Indigent Song Club, The Rye, The Unwanted, The Mighty Stef, The Bionic Rats, Túcan, Dakota 66 and a host of bands who just don’t want to be mentioned will finish up their gigs in the main arena and limp over for a more informal session… The lost, the infirm, the tattooed, those on the run, those with gold teeth, and those who sleep in hammocks with one eye open will be there.

It's up to you to find it. It’s in the woods and it opens at dusk.
