'EAT IN' at Electic Picnic

What Is An EAT IN ?
An EAT IN is a group of people gathering in public in order to share a home cooked meal. The idea originated as a Slow Food, Youth Food Movement (YFM) activity, aiming to promote the Slow Food ethos of good, clean and fair food in fun way. Our food system is complicated, any change which occurs will be a group effort, first we need to clear that the food we eat is in dire need of help. The EAT IN promotes good, clean and fair food.

An EAT IN is a protest against food that is fast, artifically cheap and industrially produced.
An EAT IN is a demand for food that is good, clean and fair.
An EAT IN is a declaration that this food must be recognized as a universal right and made available to everyone.
An EAT IN is a celebration of the people who grow, produce, sell and cook our food and of the people who share food with others.
An EAT IN is a call for the generation inheriting our food system to get out of their cars, turn off their computers and come to the table.

Who Organises It ?
Slow Food, Youth Food Movement (YFM)
Slow Food approach to agriculture, food production and gastronomy is based on the concept of food quality. For Slow Food, food quality can be defined through three basic and interconnected principles, described by the words good, clean and fair.

Good food is tasty and flavoursome, stimulating and satisfying the senses; Clean food is produced in a way that respects ecosystems, animals, biodiversity and the landscape; and its consumption is not harmful to human health. Fair food production is respectful of social justice, meaning fair pay and conditions for all involved; prices must be affordable for consumer and enable producers to enjoy acceptable living conditions, while respecting their culture and local area.

As a member supported organisation, Slow Food is organised around the world in the form of local chapters called convivia (singualar convivium). Each convivium is as unique as it's region it's in and the people, culture and food traditions there. What they all have in common is their desire to bring Slow Food to their communities, whether by seeking out local food producers and supporting them through projects, events or partnerships; starting up school gardens and educational programmes; organizing workshops, lectures, classes and conferences; or bringing together people to celebrate the joys and pleasures that food offers us.

The YFM brings the message to the next generation, the coproducers of the future.

At Slow Food we want our food to taste GOOD, be produced in a CLEAN environmentally friendly manner, and for the producer to be given a FAIR price for his labour. At Global Green, Slow Food Ireland will be championing food that is GOOD, CLEAN, and FAIR. Using the best of local, seasonal Irish produce we are laying on a festival feast including old school, wood roasted, full SPIT ROASTED PIG, served with all the trimmings, thin crust WOOD-FIRED PIZZA with a range of delicious toppings as well as artisanally roasted and blended COFFEE. Come down and have a look at us in action, ask some questions, and most importantly eat some delicious food and refuel for the day and night ahead.
